About Net Pay Ledger

A salary is quoted before tax; the money arrives after it. Net Pay Ledger closes that gap for every UK salary in tax year 2026/27, and shows the working rather than just the answer.

The site has one page for each of 156 salaries between £10,000 and £300,000, twice over: once for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and once for Scotland, whose Parliament sets its own income tax bands. Each page carries the full payslip (gross, allowance, tax by band, National Insurance, take-home by year, month and week), the staircase of marginal rates, the Scottish or UK comparison, the student loan and pension variants and the sources. The calculator on the home page runs the same formulas in your browser for any salary, loan plan and pension rate.

What it is not

It is not a payroll system and not advice. It applies the published rates to a standard employee with tax code 1257L and no other income. The method page lists what is left out. If your payslip differs, your employer's payroll department or HMRC has the details that explain why.

Data and licence

Rates and thresholds come from HM Revenue & Customs on GOV.UK and from the Scottish Government, both published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The complete table for 2026/27 is on the rates page. Photographs are credited under each picture.
